Week #14 - PLAYOFF Recap

The Westshore Bears and Saanich Express faced off in the first game of their Best of 3 PNWJLL final series on Thursday evening. The Bears struck first approximately 2 minutes in, but then the Express tied it up with just over half the period left to play. Westshore then took care of the scoring the remainder of the period to have a 4-1 lead after the first period. Saanich would start the 2nd period scoring only to have Westshore pot two more to take a 6-2 lead, but the visitors would reply with 5 goals in the last 3/4 of the middle frame to take a 7-6 lead in to intermission.

Each team in the third would play strong, hard defense with the Bears potting 2 more and the Express 1 to tie the game with just minutes left. The Bears had last possession and took advantage scoring with just :03 seconds left in the game to secure the victory. Bears win the first game of the Best of 3.

The Saanich Express and Westshore Bears took to the floor at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on Sunday July 28th for Game #2 of their Best of 3 series. Both teams looked a little nervous to start the game but the home team got on the board first and then got their 2nd with 5 minutes to go. The Bears sniped one with 4:46 remaining in the first to get on the scoreboard and send the teams to intermission with Saanich up by one.

The Bears would score twice in the first 5 minutes to take the lead but this was an action packed game with each team working their magic and anything could happen. In the last half of the 2nd period, the Express would tie the game again and then take the lead by two heading in the the final period up 5-3. Westshore would score a quarter of the way into the 3rd period to bring the game within one, but then just seconds later, the Express would increase their lead back to two and then score two more in the next 7 minutes in this tightly contested affair. The Bears would make the score 8-5 with just over 5 minutes to go but then with the goalie pulled and extra attacker on the floor, the Express scooped up a loose ball and ran to center before taking a 60 ft. shot in to the open net to seal the win.

With the series tied up at 1-1, Game #3 takes place on Thursday August 1st at 8:00pm at the Q Centre Arena. You don't want to miss it!
