The Saanich Express got out to a strong start in the first 40-minutes in the PNWJLL season opener in Nanaimo on Wednesday night, as they played the Timbermen to an even draw in the third period to become the first team to enter the win column this year.

A good, clean contest by both teams whom were each showing off some new talent whom have graduated from their local midget ranks. Nanaimo did find themselves trailing in the first two periods but settled down in their home opener and played to a 4-4 draw in the third period. A huge improvement from the start of the match.

Timbermen Coach Wil Johnny can see that with time, he squad will definitely improve as seen by their play in the final frame. They got goals from three different players in the 3rd; Julian Johnny potting a deuce. He also got solid goaltending out of Connor James after he replaced Garrett Watson between the pipes.

Express Coach Tyson Leies commended his players on their strong, disciplined play and was delighted to see 9 different players get on the score sheet rather than just a token few. Moving feet and ball movement was the game plan for Game #1.

The Ravens were led by Lucas Marriott-Spencer and Heydon Campbell while the Bears victory was headed by Captain Noah Holler, Chris Reid and Brandon Coulombe.
