2022 Preview: Campbell River Ravens

CAMPBELL RIVER RAVENS

LAST SEASON: 2-4
PLACE: 3RD
PLAYOFF RECAP: LOST IN PNWJLL SEMI-FINALS IN 2019

There was virtually a full scale change in the Salmon Capital of the World. With an entirely new operations and administrative group, coaching staff (Cory Fisher, Phillip Kountouris, Derek WIngert and Don Orton) take over the helm full-time after a trial run during last years' COVID-19 season.

The Ravens will look to final year goalkeeper; Coulton Darnell to back-stop their defense while relying on 5th years' Heydon Campbell, Rylan Fisher, Blake Doherty, and Carson Foy to lead their offense while Dylan Christensen and Ethan Mainprize anchor their defensive/transition game.

The Ravens struggled during the 2021 season with low numbers and injuries but stayed strong and unified, weathering the bad times and never wavering, resulting in some great team contributions in close games and their wins. The cupboard is stocked with talent across the board, with a plethora of final year players hoping to get back to the coveted PNWJLL playoffs.

The coaching staff and management group have had the onerous task this off-season of recruiting local players and those from outlying communities to return to lacrosse after a 2 year hiatus; a challenge they have graciously accepted. The Ravens will have a teeter-totter roster this year meaning they will be heavy in final year and first year players just due to the pandemic. Look for Campbell River to come out of the gates quickly this season while the veterans lead the charge, fostering a dynamic for the rookies and sophomores to follow.

The Strathcona Gardens will host the Campbell River Ravens again in 2022.
