2020 PREVIEW: Saanich Express

SAANICH EXPRESS

LAST SEASON: 12-4
PLACE: 2ND
PLAYOFF RECAP: 2ND IN PNWJLL PLAYOFFS
PROVINCIALS: 2ND

The Saanich Express followed up their 2018 season with another 2nd place finish in the 2019 league standings. Governor Andrea Churchill has returning coaches Tyson Leies and Darcy Tytgat and they will be the conductors along with accompanying coaches and staff as the team looks to 2020 with a few holes to fill. Gone is the leagues' top goaltender Darian Claxton (.888 SV%, 4.02 GAA), Nolan Morrison, Jonny Harmsworth, Brendan Harstad, Ben Baxter, Jorden Tytgat, Ambrose Underwood, Matt Caseley and Griffin Payne; but with a number of graduating midgets from Saanich and free agents, they look to fill the holes and vye for a league title.

The Express will look to John Etzel Jr. (11G, 19A, 30PTS), Mason Lo (12G, 28A, 40PTS) and Robbie Walker (19G, 15A, 34PTS) to lead the team offensively and lead a good returning group for the upcoming season. The defensive core is missing some key names now but the likes of Andre Snow, Jake Bradstock, Tyson Barnswell and Brody Rivers will be looked at as the glue to hold them together and lead their returning back-end roster. There are a large number of graduating midgets that will steady this squad providing they are not on a Junior A or B1 team this upcoming summer.

The Express train will be stopping at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre this summer; delivering action to the downtown Victoria area in 2020.
